Marek Maasikmets

Air Quality & Environmental Science Expert

I am an air quality and environmental science specialist focusing on the sources, chemical composition and health effects of atmospheric particulate matter.

I head the data analysis group at the Estonian Environmental Research Centre (EKUK), where I work on long-term air quality data analysis as well as monitoring and modelling solutions. As a co-author, I have contributed to several large international collaborative studies assessing the mortality impact of air pollution, heat and wildfire smoke across dozens of countries and hundreds of cities.

I'm motivated by evidence-based decision-making and by putting research findings to practical use in environmental policy and air quality improvement.
